A Larchmont florist, owned by a Larchmont native

Nancy White grew up in Larchmont, and apart from a short stint in Manhattan she has lived in Westchester ever since. She came home for good in 2008 and got married on her front porch, surrounded by lilacs in full bloom. “Lilacs are my favorite flowers,” she says. She did her wedding flowers herself, even getting a tax ID so she could buy at the wholesale market.

Before flowers, Nancy’s career was in fine art and advertising. She launched Showhouse, a nationally distributed, award-winning interiors magazine, and later represented titles including Sierra, Preservation, Art & Auction and Yachting. Then it was time for a pivot. A friend suggested the floral design program at the New York Botanical Garden, and Nancy earned her certificate there. The program required an internship, and her neighbors owned The Flower Bar. She started on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2010, and within a year the shop was hers. Owning a small business in the town where she grew up had been a dream for years. A flower shop has stood at 11 Addison Street since 1971; it has been The Flower Bar since 2008.

“To me, the most important thing in design is to choose and place every flower intentionally,” Nancy says. She starts with a picture in her mind and chooses the flowers to match it. Our year-round staples come from farms around the world and directly from the Dutch flower auction. Whenever we can, we buy locally: from Bloom Court Farm in Chappaqua and other farms in Connecticut and New Jersey, and from Nancy’s own Larchmont garden, where she grows dahlias, zinnias, hellebores and Shasta daisies. “It’s always a battle with the deer,” she admits.

Today Nancy leads a studio team of designers, a studio manager and our own delivery driver, with a dedicated events team for weddings and celebrations.
